how to get celebrity hair: Kate Moss

Edwina changes her hair nearly as often as Agyness Deyn – she’s been brunette, red, black and blonde. Now she wants to go even blonder. Her existing hair colour has a natural ash base with blonde highlights, so she is a great candidate for this Kate Moss makeover. Colourist Kathy Gilbert, from Torquil Murray Haircutters, 02 9212 7516, says, “Kate’s hair is strong on the tips and soft at the base. Edwina has a very similar colouring to Kate, as well as the same fine hair texture.”

Will It Suit Her?
“The fact that Edwina is a natural and medium blonde is good because the darker you are, the higher the maintenance,” says Gilbert. “I love the fact that Edwina has brought a reference. It is the most practical thing to do, because what you have in your mind as ‘strawberry’ blonde, for instance, could be a million miles from my idea of that colour.”

The Cut
The fringe is the perfect accessory to the new golden blonde as it accentuates the colour and makes the mid-length hair look much more interesting. It also makes the hair appear thicker.

Maintenance
To keep colour looking fresh, you’ll need to visit your colourist every six to eight weeks. If you feel the need to refresh the colour mid-term, opt for a non-permanent gloss, which will “wake up” the colour as well as top notes of the pigments. Gilbert says, “Be prepared for a long initial session with the stylist, but then it is just a work in progress.” You will need to invest in a good shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair. Try Série Expert Vitamino Color Shampoo and Conditioner, $22.95, by L’Oréal Professionnel, 1300 651 141, or Semi Di Lino Cristali Illuminating Shampoo, $21.50, and Conditioner, $26, by Alfaparf Milano, 1300 651 141. Avoid washing your hair every day, as this dilutes the colour. Invest in a power dryer like the 3500 Supercompact Ceramic & Ionic Hairdryer, $169.95, by Parlux,  1800 251 215. Dry hair on a medium heat and intensity and keep the dryer moving so you don’t overheat the hair. Keep a Wide-tooth Comb, $3.55, by Conair, 1800 650 263, in the shower to work treatment products through your hair.
