Alia Clinic liposculpture

local lipo

Liposculpture has come a long way since the early days of liposuction. This procedure removes fat cells and fat using tumescent (meaning to swell) local anaesthesia. The problem area is filled with this solution before the liposculpture is performed.

The Claim: This is a good procedure for stubborn fatty deposits (in the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, neck and arms) that don’t respond to diet and exercise. The surgeon uses fine cannulas in a two- to three-hour procedure, to suction out the fat under twilight sedation. Post-surgery, you wear a compression garment for 12 days and there are usually one or two days down time. According to Dr Mark Goyen and Dr Alia Nasser, who are very practised with this technique and often perform the procedure in tandem, it is essential to eat sensibly and exercise before and after to maximise results.

The Verdict: This is the final frontier for when all else has failed. At the six-week mark the results are truly dramatic. Now, I must commit to both healthy eating and an exercise plan.

Cost: From $3,800 for the tummy – also known affectionately as the “muffintop-ectomy” – (not including theatre fees).
