plasma resurfacing
What Is It? Portrait plasma skin regeneration is the latest in laser-alternative treatments. “Portrait delivers little pulses of nitrogen plasma gas to the surface of the skin. The heat is transferred deep into the skin to stimulate new collagen growth,” explains Dr Peter Muzikants from Ãda Cosmetic Medicine in Sydney’s Glebe.
What It Does: While Portrait does offer some degree of deep-tissue tightening, its main aim is to give laser-like resurfacing results.
Is It Better Than Laser? Results are comparable to laser resurfacing, acknowledges Dr Muzikants, but it’s the way those results are achieved that makes plasma resurfacing so note-worthy. “Plasma appears to get through the surface layer without destroying it like laser does,” he says. This significantly reduces recovery time.
Who It's For: Anyone with signs of ageing. “That can be normal ageing or prematurely aged skin,” says Dr Muzikants.
The Downtime: Recovery time depends on the energy settings used and varies from several days to around 10 days.
Cost: Again, this depends on the energy settings used. You may need between one and four treatments around three weeks apart, at between $1,500 and $5,400 each.
