Many actors change their look for film roles. From putting on weight to a change in hair colour, the movie industry is all about embracing the character. And, with recent photos emerging of Charlize Theron and her new buzz cut, we can see this starlet is truly a Hollywood chameleon.
Showing off her closely cropped style in her native South Africa, Theron was spotted enjoying lunch with her mother, Gerda, at a cafe in between shooting scenes for her new film
Mad Max 4: Fury Road.

Charlize is believed to have chopped off her trademark long, blonde locks in June to play Furiosa in the fourth film of this post-apocalyptic series.
While pictures were released earlier this year of the new do, this is the first time we’ve seen the dramatic chop without the disguise of a hat. The photos also depict the actress with much darker hair – leading many tabloids to question whether she is brunette after all.
Theron expressed her excitment for her role in the
Mad Max franchaise earlier this year saying: "I feel like the original
Mad Max created such a vivid world, that to go back and re-imagine it and kind of replay in that sandbox sounds like fun to me.
“George [Miller] really created a female character that I've never read anything like this... I'm very excited about it,” she added.
Theron's buzz cut, however, is not the first time we've seen the beauty dramtically change her look for a film role.
Theron made hair headlines when she wore her buttery blonde tresses in a short heavily razored crop for her 1999 film,
The Astronaut's Wife .

For the movie
Sweet November she went for a wavy, short cut with highlights.

Starring in
Aeon Flux, her hair was worn in a slick, dark style.

And who can forget, Theron’s 2003 portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, in
Monster. For this Oscar-winning performance, the star not only let the make-up artists make her look old and haggard, but she gained 30 pounds.
North Country was another movie that saw Theron play down her stunning looks.
