A recent study conducted by The Journal of Social Psychology has found the beauty can be a hindrance to woman who work in fields regarded as masculine. Researches found that beautiful women were less likely to be considered for roles such as prison guard, construction supervisor, tow truck driver or mechanical engineer, as these positions have been traditionally held by men. 

The study found that good-looking men did not experience parallel discrimination, and were always at an advantage over their less good-looking peers.  

"In these [traditionally masculine] professions being attractive was highly detrimental to women," said researcher Stefanie Johnson. "In every other kind of job, attractive women were preferred. This wasn't the case with men which shows that there is still a double standard when it comes to gender."

Good-looking women had an advantage over their plainer counterparts not only when it came to roles that were considered feminine, but also in general life - attractive women tend to get paid higher salaries, receive better performance evaluations, are more likely to gain admission to education institutions, get better voter ratings when running for public office and more favourable judgments in trials.
