5 Minutes with - Lorna Jane

Founder of eponymous sportswear label and author of Move, Nourish, Believe, Lorna Jane Clarkson speaks to madison about healthy eating, fashion trends and staying in shape.

How do you prioritise exercise?
Team your workout gear in the day with heels and accessories for a quick swap into sneakers to keep you motivated to exercise after work. I also find by keeping a pair of runners under my desk at work, I’m always ready to be active. If you struggle for spare time, make little changes to your day that will have a significant impact over time. Take the stairs instead of the lift, get off the bus one stop earlier, or be the one who offers to run down the road to pick up lunch for everyone.

Why the title ‘Move, Nourish, Believe’ for your first book?
Move, nourish, believe is my personal mantra that has filtered into the Lorna Jane brand for every woman to embrace. I move my body every day, I nourish from the inside out, and I truly believe anything is possible.

What is your healthy go-to snack when food cravings kick in?
Homemade granola bars. Not only are they tasty but they’re filled with healthy ingredients including rolled oats, quinoa flakes, raisins and dried figs. I had to include the recipe in the book.

Why is fashion important in active wear?
By fusing fashion with fitness, women can enjoy vibrant colours with runway-inspired designs, all the while being supported with high-performance fabrics and innovative technologies. We shouldn’t have to sacrifice our personal style at the gym.

What colour/pattern trends can we expect to see in the new Lorna Jane range?
Look out for lots of stripes, polka dots, bold prints and bright hues, including shades of pink, purple and teal in our latest range.

What is your number one tip when buying new exercise clothes?
Always check the label and make sure pants are made with high-tech, quality Lycra, which is long-lasting and won’t turn see-through.

What is the one message you hope readers take away from your book?
I want women to close my book feeling inspired and motivated to lead their best life, taking away a message that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
