Health and beauty secrets: Candice Alley, singer/songwriter

Candice Alley came on to Australia's music scene in 2003 when her debut single "Falling" sat in the Top 5 spot for 32 weeks. The singer/songwriter has since married swimming champion Grant Hackett, given birth to twins and also performed alongside Chris Issak.
Even with her busy family life Alley still manages to juggle her career. This can sometimes be stressful, but Alley has found a few things that have really worked for her. She sat down to give madison some tips for alleviating stress...

A Newspoll commissioned by Nutra-Life Organic Magnesium shows that more people than ever are stressed about money, do you ever feel stressed?
At one point in every day I’d say stress occurs in my life, whether it be trying to rush out the door on time with my twins or trying to juggle commitments evenly. Stress can happen at any time for anyone, so I think it’s really important to learn your triggers and find natural ways to cope.

What do you do to relax and unwind?
Songwriting or just playing my piano definitely helps relieve stress for me and a good massage every now and then is not bad either! I also find meditation, even used sporadically, can be a really effective relaxation tool.

What advice would you give to mums who are juggling work and children?
Get some good help if you can or work with friends and relatives to help juggle picking up the kids from school or kinder etc. Also, try to wake up an hour before your children do in the morning to get the important things done for yourself and get organised for the day ahead.

Also remember to take your daily vitamins – that is essential to ensure you have the nutrients and energy you need to get through the day. What is your daily beauty routine if you are on the run?
I moisturise morning and night before I get dressed and I always wear foundation because I find that, along with a good sunscreen in summer, it always protects me from the sun.

What is one beauty trick you use to keep yourself looking the best when you’re not feeling the best?
Definitely washing my hair! It always makes you look and feel better! And exfoliating my face always makes my skin shine.

What do you eat on a daily basis; do you find this changes if you are stressed or extremely busy?
I try to eat as organically as possible or at least naturally. I love almonds and most fish. When I’m on the run and really busy though, I find taking supplements is important because they make up for what I may be lacking in my food intake.

Do you have any good remedies that would help combat stress that family and friends have passed onto you?
Take time out to relax and read, communicate honestly with your partner or family, look at your diet and supplement it if you need to. We’re all deficient in something we just have to be aware of our needs.
