It has not been a good year at Emanuel Ungaro for anyone involved. The problems began when the label, (whose namesake designer left in 2004) announced that Lindsay Lohan was the new artistic advisor. The reaction in the fashion world was to be expected: initial shock and genuine concern for the future of the label. Linking celebrities with fashion labels is as much a trend this season as the clog was last season - sure everyone is doing it and it might look good on paper, but is it really a good idea? No doubt some can pull it off (Sienna Miller and Twenty8Twelve; Alexa Chung and Madewell; Kate Moss and Topshop). But Lindsay Lohan and Ungaro, not so much. With unsuccessful reviews after the first collection, the anticipation for the A/W 10-11 Ungaro collection was unusually high, with everyone waiting to see if it would improve, or if it again would disappoint. Turns out it was the latter. Things were not looking good last year when the former designer Emmanuel Ungaro himself announced to the press that the “collaboration [with Lindsay Lohan] was a disaster”. Apparently the actress took this to heart as she was nowhere to be seen when Ungaro’s head designer Estrella Archs took to the runway after the A/W collection to take her bow alone. There were whispers in the front row of Lohan’s whereabouts, as the apparent artistic advisor was not only in Paris but had been sitting front row at many other shows. When Lohan was asked why she was a no-show at Ungaro, she replied, “Because I don’t work for them anymore.” We’re not sure exactly what happened in the rather short collaboration (was it even a season?), but Ungaro owner Asim Abdullah confirmed, “She’s not involved in this collection.” And by the sounds of it, she won’t be in the future. “There’s legal things going on; I can’t really discuss it,” Lohan stated. It appears the actress will now be back to simply wearing the clothes rather than designing them, but we doubt if we’ll be seeing her in Ungaro anytime soon.
