It’s that time of year again. Designers are gearing up to shoot their A/W 10-11 campaigns, and this season it seems professional models are edging out celebrities as the faces for the brands. According to WWD, Daria Werbowy has been confirmed by Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent, Raquel Zimmermann will front up for Gucci, Marc Jacobs has tapped Christy Turlington (hello, real supermodel), Karen Elson and Natalia Vodianova for Louis Vuitton, while Balenciaga has cast 10 models including Elson and Stella Tennant. Karl Lagerfeld has already captured Freja Beha Erichsen and Abbey Lee for Chanel’s A/W 10-11 campaign. He explains to WWD the move from celebrity to model-only campaigns, noting the “overexposure of celebrities” as the deciding factor. “It makes it that one may be a little tired of celebrities and the red carpet. I love models and there are great ones for the moment,” he continued. Could he be referring to the decision to ditch Lily Allen as the face for Chanel Coco Cocoon bags?
