You asked: What are your best tips for winter dressing?
madison's fashion editor Nathalie Agussol lists her top tips for colder weather dressing:
1. LAYERING
There are two ways to go about it. If your office is overheated - as they so often are - wear simple, lightweight dresses, tops and skirts/pants as your base. But then, have a beautifully lush, warm coat that you can drape over it all to combat the outdoor chill. The other way to layer is to play with texture and multi layering then simply peel off as the temperature requires. This trick also equals a great fashion look especially if minimal is not for you.
2. COLOUR
Personally I prefer neutrals for winter and colour for summer. I like classic black in beautiful fabrics that will see me through for year. But then again, I
am French and I have spent a decade in NY, which are both areas that consider black to be the absolute colour du jour any day! However, the winter light and life in Australia lends itself so well to colour that I feel, if colour makes you happy, just go for it! Have a look at our current July issue to see how amazing Rachel Wayman’s (our fashion director) styling is in her
Colour Me In shoot (from page 110, pictured above). Any of featured pieces or colour combinations would banish even the severest of winter blues! This story also demonstrates layering really well.
3. SPARKLE
If, like me, colour isn’t really your thing, then I suggest you add a little sparkle to your day with the help of metallic fabrics or chunky gold jewellery. A gold cuff is the most chic way to enliven even the simplest of sweaters. Go to our
Cuff Love page (p124) and see Irene’s stellar selection.
Also, mix it up by using variations on traditional neutrals with an on-trend gold peplum top from
Ellery or
Toni Maticevski.
4. STAY DRY
We’ve seen a lot of rain lately but staying dry doesn't mean ditching style.
Jigsaw is unbeatable this season. Go in store and have a look at their raincoats, trenches and the amazing selection of Hunter rain boots! Of course, a classic
Burberry trench is always a treat and a lifelong investment.
5. WEAR A SCARF
So many of us really feel the chill around our necks. If you don’t feel like wearing a chunky knit scarf, or the office air-conditioning unit feels too breezy, casually wrap your neck with a beautiful silk scarf. The choices are abundant from
Hermes to
Witchery.
6. OPAQUE TIGHTS
Keep your pins warm on the colder days with a pair of black opaque tights. Pair with your lighter summer dresses to make them a year-round option. Just add a jacket and a pair of ankle boots to pull the look together!
