Dear Sleepless In Cyberspace

The Lipstick Jungle

Katrina Lawrence has been a beauty writer for over ten years – but beauty-obsessed since the age of 13, when she found a pot of Guerlain Météorites powder pearls in her Christmas stocking. While Katrina’s beauty focus may have shifted from trying to look ten years older to ten years younger, she has never lost the joy of unwrapping a brand new shiny beauty product. Lucky that, seeing as she has to test new products every day of her life. Katrina is a regular contributor to madison and is the editor of beautyeditor.com.au

Q: “My student budget will not make room for La Mer just yet. Ironically, my student lifestyle has left me with what seems like permanent dark circles... what are your suggestions for hard-core concealers?” - Sunili

A: Good timing with the question. Just yesterday I was interviewing Natalie Bloom, who let me in on this gem of a tip: mineral makeup as an under-eye concealer. Sure enough, if you take her concealer brush, dip it into her new mineral makeup (buy them both at the new online Bloom store bloomcosmetics.com.au), and then dab onto dark circles, you get, well, no dark circles. You’re working with a 100% pure mineral blend, so you’re basically working with 100% pigment – which means you get amazing coverage. One thing to be aware of: you must make sure your skin is well hydrated with eye cream or the minerals can look a little dry and cakey – in which case you may as well have circled your circles with a big red texta.
