coming soon in cosmetic surgery procedures: titanium breast implants
WHAT IS IT? Titanium breast implants are undergoing clinical trials in Australia. They are, in part, cohesive silicone gel, while the top layer features titanium mesh which results in a longer lifespan.
WHY HAVE IT? Seven per cent of the 10,000 Australian women who have breast implants each year suffer from “capsular contracture” – a painful tightening of the breast tissue. By coating the traditional silicone implants with a thin layer of titanium, it is hoped that the body will recognise this and not react.
