Beauty blog: Mrs Darling has a spa named after her… sort of!

There is a fabulous new day spa at The Darling hotel in Sydney, so, of course, I felt I should ensure that the exacting standards associated with that auspicious name were test driven by none other than, Mrs Darling. I limp into the hotel after a gruelling week of back-to-back functions, gagging for some hands-on relief. I have been given the heads up on a treatment called Turkish Hammam Body Polish ($200 for 75 minutes), so I am ready to be taken to the other side.

The spa itself is vast with cool, copper-coloured walls and 16 cloistered treatment rooms. Bring it on.

My therapist is Turkish and I am completely in her thrall as we enter a huge hot room, which features a large stone bed that is heated and surrounded by constantly running water.

Now, this treatment is all about getting down and “clean”. Sluiced with tepid water continuously, the therapist scrubs and washes me with these incredibly aromatic cleansers. I think my skin must be quite sensitive to heat because she has to keep topping up the towels to stop my back from feeling scorched from the heat of the stone bed. I kid you not she has to put about seven down.

Once we get that right, the rest of the treatment is sublime. It all ends with a hair wash and massage; I am almost falling into a beauty coma just reminiscing about it.

Delicate snacks are served at the end, which I hoover down in a matter of seconds.

I am seriously as clean as a whistle.

Now, what’s next on the menu?
