After years of procrastinating and scoffing at the detoxers around me, I’ve decided to bite the bullet and sign up with the whizzes at Eat Fit Food, eatfitfood.com.au, for their 10 day detox program.

They came personally recommended from my friends Kaye and Lisa at theclinic.net.au who perpetually have their fingers on the pulse of all things new and effective.

Now I love my carbs and my empty calories so I know it will be a bit of a challenge.

The great thing about this mob is that they deliver all the meals in these cute cooler packs so nothing is left to chance. So, here is what was on the menu for two of the days……

DAY ONE:

Pre Breakfast:
Rejuvenate with apple, carrot, celery, beetroot and ginger juice or warm water with a squeeze of lemon. Needless to say I opted for the juice.

Breakfast: Free-range scrambled eggs with a potato rosti, baby spinach & tomato jam.

Snack 1: Eat Fit Food Cleanse Bar. Eat before or shortly after breakfast, ensuring you drink at least 2 litres of water a day. Nothing is left to chance.

Lunch: Tomato, beetroot, carrot, avocado & hummus salad with ginger miso dressing. I am no rabbit but it was quite tasty.

Snack 2: Fruit salad.

Snack 3: Vegie sticks & beetroot dip.

Dinner: Chilli, ginger & lemongrass barramundi with broccoli, green beans, brown rice, squash & lemon. I ate every meal at about 5.30 as I was ravenous.

DAY TWO:

Pre-Breakfast:
Revive with apple, kiwifruit & spinach.

Breakfast: Gluten free toast with tomato & hummus.

Snack 1: Eat Fit Food Cleanse Bar.

Lunch: Roast pumpkin & caramelized onion frittata with side salad.

Snack 2: Fruit.

Snack 3: Rice crackers & tomato salsa.

Dinner: Honey, ginger & lemon chicken stir-fry with cashews. In a hot pan, put a table spoon of olive oil and cook through the marinated chicken supplied with half the marinade sauce.
Then toss in stir-fry vegies provided and cook for further 5-10 minutes, adding the remaining marinade if required.

RESULT:
I have to say that by day four, after I had passed through the detox coffee-free headache zone, I felt much more energetic and fresh.

Now, because it is me, there were a few misdemeanours. I had the odd glass of wine on two of the nights.

I was dispatched one evening to buy kebabs and chips with chicken salt for the kids. This heaving mass of temptation was residing on the passenger seat next to me and I just had to test that the chips tasted as good as they smelt. And they did!

But on the whole I was pretty chaste. At the end of the 10 days I had lost a couple of kilos and had the energy of a 12 year old.

Thank you to my friends at Eat Fit Food. I have made a pact with myself to reduce portion sizes and keep the carbs to a minimum after lunch time.
